Terms & Conditions
Ink Body and Soul · Tattoo services by Calvin
These terms apply when you book or receive a tattoo from Ink Body and Soul (“we”, “us”), the mobile tattoo practice of Calvin, operating in and around Johannesburg, South Africa. By booking with us you agree to what follows. Please read it before you pay a deposit.
Bookings and deposits
- A booking is only confirmed once a deposit has been received. Until then, your date is not held.
- The deposit goes toward the final price of your tattoo.
- The deposit amount is agreed with you at the time of booking and depends on the size and complexity of the piece.
- The balance is payable on the day, once the tattoo is finished.
Cancellations, reschedules and lateness
- If you need to move your appointment, tell us as early as you can and we will do our best to find you a new date.
- Deposits are non-refundable. If you cancel, or reschedule at short notice, the deposit may be forfeited — the required notice period is confirmed with you when you book.
- If you arrive significantly late, the session may need to be shortened or rebooked.
- If we ever have to cancel or move your appointment, your deposit stays valid and moves with you to the new date.
Age
You must be 18 years or older to be tattooed by us. Valid photo identification may be requested. We do not tattoo minors, with or without a parent's consent.
Your health and fitness to be tattooed
Before your appointment you must tell us if you have any condition or circumstance that could affect the tattoo or your healing, including but not limited to:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Diabetes, haemophilia or any bleeding or clotting disorder
- Epilepsy, heart conditions, or a compromised immune system
- Skin conditions, allergies (particularly to latex, inks or pigments), or keloid scarring
- Any medication that thins the blood, or recent use of Roaccutane
We may decline or postpone a tattoo on health grounds. Please do not arrive intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs — we will refuse to tattoo you and the deposit will be forfeited. We are not medical practitioners and nothing on this website is medical advice; if you are unsure whether it is safe for you to be tattooed, speak to your doctor first.
Designs and artwork
- Custom artwork is drawn for you, but copyright in the design remains with Calvin.
- Every tattoo is made by hand. Small variations from a reference image or drawing are part of the medium and are not a defect.
- Reworking someone else's existing tattoo, and cover-up work, carries limits set by the skin and the existing ink. We will be honest with you about what is achievable before you commit.
- We do not copy another artist's custom work.
Aftercare, healing and touch-ups
Aftercare guidance is given to you at your appointment, and the aftercare planner on this website is a general guide only. Once you leave, how the tattoo heals is largely in your hands.
- We are not responsible for a result affected by aftercare that was not followed — including sun exposure, swimming, picking or scratching, or unclean conditions.
- If a healed tattoo needs a small touch-up because of how it settled, speak to us. Touch-ups are considered case by case.
- Reactions, infection or unusual healing must be seen by a doctor. Tell us as well so we can advise.
Mobile appointments
Calvin travels to clients across Johannesburg. Where we tattoo you at your own location, you agree to provide a clean, well-lit, private space with access to power and running water. We may decline to work in a space that cannot be made hygienic. Travel outside the usual area may carry an additional charge, agreed with you beforehand.
Photography
We may photograph finished work for our portfolio and social media. Your face is never included without your permission, and you may ask us not to photograph your tattoo at all — just tell us on the day.
Payment
Prices are quoted before work begins and depend on size, detail, placement and time. Quotes are estimates; if a design changes substantially, the price may change, and we will tell you before continuing. We do not offer piercings.
Liability
A tattoo is a permanent modification of your body and carries inherent risks, including pain, swelling, scarring and, rarely, allergic reaction or infection. By proceeding you accept those risks. Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008. Subject to that, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the tattoo concerned.
Spelling, dates and content you supply
Where your tattoo contains text, names, dates or coordinates, you are responsible for checking the spelling and accuracy of the final stencil before we begin. Once we start, we cannot undo it, and corrections are charged as new work.
Your personal information
We handle your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). See our Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page at the time of your booking is the one that applies to you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
